Terms & Conditions of Sale
Last updated: 19 October 2026
These terms apply to all purchases from this website, operated by Garden Soils (sole trader), Tavistock, Devon ("we", "us"). Contact: 01822 484029 · paul@gardensoils.co.uk. By placing an order you agree to these terms. They do not affect your statutory rights.
1. About us and our products
We supply peat-free Soil Conditioning Compost in 50L bags, sold by the pallet (50 bags) or half pallet (25 bags). It is PAS 100 certified and contains no peat, no food waste and no animal by-products. Descriptions and images are for guidance; small natural variations in colour and texture may occur.
2. Orders
Your order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we confirm your order and payment is taken. We may refuse or cancel an order (for example for a pricing error, lack of stock or suspected fraud); if we cancel after payment we refund you in full.
3. Prices and payment
Prices are as shown at checkout, plus delivery per pallet and tail-lift delivery at £10.50 per delivery (included by default; you can untick it when you order if you can unload the pallet yourself). No VAT is charged as Garden Soils is not currently VAT registered. Payment is taken securely by Stripe and full payment is required before dispatch. Goods remain ours until paid for in full.
4. Delivery
We deliver UK-wide by pallet network on a large lorry. Tail-lift delivery (+£10.50 per delivery) is included by default, so the driver can lower the pallet to the ground. If you have a forklift or loading bay to unload it yourself, you can untick it when you order to save £10.50. Orders placed by 12 noon (UK time) are dispatched the next working day (Monday to Friday) and delivered by pallet network in 1–2 working days, so usually 2–3 working days from order; some remote areas may take longer. Some islands and remote postcodes can't be booked online – call or email us for a quote.
Please make sure that a large lorry can reach the delivery point, there is a firm, level, hard surface to set the pallet down, and someone is in or a safe drop spot has been agreed in advance. Please give us an accurate address and tell us about any access restrictions before delivery.
Please check your pallet on arrival and note any damage on the delivery note. Bags are heavy – take care when lifting.
5. Cancellations and returns
Change of mind: under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you may cancel within 14 days of receiving your goods and return them within a further 14 days. Goods must be unused and in their original packaging. Pallets can't be returned by post, so you pay the cost of return; if we collect, it costs the same as our delivery rate for your postcode (at most £303.99 per pallet, plus £10.50 for a tail lift). We refund the price of the goods and the original delivery charge within 14 days of receiving them back. See Returns & refunds for full details. Tell us by email at paul@gardensoils.co.uk.
Faulty, damaged or incorrect goods: under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, please tell us as soon as possible (ideally within 30 days) with photos. If goods were damaged in transit, short or incorrect, we will arrange collection at our cost and offer a replacement or a full refund including delivery, within 14 days of confirmation.
6. Liability
We are responsible only for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of these terms. We are not liable for indirect or business losses, or for loss caused by misuse or improper storage. Risk passes to you on delivery. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your statutory rights.
7. Events outside our control
We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as severe weather, strikes or carrier problems.
